An essential nutrient for women, iron helps reduce fatigue and supports normal energy metabolism. It is also involved in the functioning of the immune system. It is less well known, but it is also involved in the normal formation of red blood cells and haemoglobin, which transport oxygen to the tissues. By nature, women have high requirements: the monthly loss is around 25 mg and must be covered daily by food. However, studies show a lack of iron reserves in the French population, especially in women of childbearing age: 20% of premenopausal women are iron deficient.
